Wandering the stands at designjunction this year, I was pleased to discover the work of Chilean designers on show under the banner of High Noon, a government-led showcase of the six distinguished design studios at the height of their creative powers.
The title of the exhibition reflects the high-noon as the exact moment of the day when the sun is at its strongest, shining with bright optimism. What captivated me at first was the use of copper in a lot of the products, and learning more from the team that Chile is the world’s number one copper exporter made a lot of sense as to why this local material would be used by local designers.

All too often I’m caught up in the UK’s sustainability conversations that it is easy to forget how the material we import is local to other regions, so by using our local resources can create a distinctive style for regions around the world without intentionally meaning to.
On show was the works of Bravo!, Orlando Gatica, Gt2p, Ignacia Murtagh, Ruiz Solar and The Andes House…I hope to see more of these designers work over the coming years.
