Billy Lloyd, award-winning potter

I really enjoy discovering new designers, some new, some have been around for a while; Billy Lloyd is somewhere closer to the latter as he set up his studio in 2011 after graduation from Camberwell College of Arts in 2006. He now produces and supplies many galleries and special retailers with his understated thrown porcelain tableware.

His work is simple, uncoloured, yet full of character and personality. He may pursue a “less is more” approach to work but you could never categorise Billy’s work as minimal. He produces ceramics that are intended for everyday use, functional objects that encourage us to re-examine our associations with the belongings we surround ourself with.

“I’m looking to strip away superfluous detail, leaving me with only what’s necessary to characterise each functional piece.”

Billy was interviewed in his studio at Cockpit Arts as part of a series by Artquest…
