At 39 years old, this arcade game has really stood the test of time for engagement. Despite being ridiculously simple in design and even quite a limited gaming experience, Pong was the first home video game developed into a console that plugged into the back of a TV.
A simulation of tennis, Pong saw families interacting with their TVs for the first time and the console was quickly copied with over 500 similar systems flooding the market.
Famed for its simplicity, Pong had only two instructions: ‘deposit quarter’ and ‘avoid missing ball for high score’. What more do you need to know?
Nowadays we still cannot get enough of this simple game of hand–eye coordination, even downloading it onto our mobile devices so that we can be entertained whilst on the tube or half watching Eastenders.
