Everybody has an opinion on Nature. But what about Nature’s opinion? To promote EOS magazine, a Belgian magazine specialized in science, ecology and technology, Happiness Brussels came up with a campaign that bundles these three domains in an interactive way.
A 100 year old tree, living on the edge of Brussels, was hooked up to a fine dust meter, ozone meter, light meter, weatherstation, webcam and microphone. This equipment constantly measures the tree’s living circumstances. And translates this information into human language. Then, the tree lets the world know how he feels. Follow the life of the talking tree via Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and Soundcloud. And friend him on Facebook.
Here’s a short film that explains how the tree was equipped to produce the various streams of content that feed into the campaign site at talking-tree.com:

The point of the campaign is to highlight scientific magazine Eos’s forthcoming Low Impact Month – an initiative that looks to persuade the magazine’s Dutch and French readers to cut down on their carbon emissions and decrease the size of their ecological footprint. The tree’s activity is designed to give people a sense of their impact on nature, in a friendly, accessible, and upbeat way.
I love this idea so much, especially how human the tree appears to be with his tweeting. A tree running a twitter feed has got to be a first!

@Futurefabric I like that idea. Perhaps it's nearby the first tree of Twitter: http://t.co/HLetz4e
