Born in New York in 1979, Leon Ransmeier graduated in 2001 from the Rhode Island School of Design. Several of his products were recently exhibited in the 2010 Design Triennial, Why Design Now? at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, where his work is included in the permanent collection.
Ransmeier believes that reductionism can be more than just styling, and strives to utilize the absence of formal distractions to focus on clear, informed interactions. This emphasis on intuition and behavior can also be seen in his collaborations with DBA, Droog, and Established & Sons.
I stumbled across DBA some time back and am a big fan of the idea. A simple everyday pen that has non-toxic materials with only 2% of the pen non-compostable… the nib! How great is that? And at only $8.98 for three pens (excluding shipping) they are an affordable everyday pen to have.
Leon Ransmeier was recently interviewed for Apartamento magazine in his New York home on Wall Street above all of the buildings in a little old storage shack. A rather modest place to live, but when you are the modern king of reductionism you wouldn’t be looking for a grand apartment.
