Dietrich does Düller

I’m a big fan of Dietrich Lubs, and was very lucky to meet him a couple of times over the last few years. He was responsible for the watches and calculators during Dieter Rams’ tenure as head of design at Braun.

Some early blog posts at Atelier Tally talked about his exhibition in Japan, and despite not being able to have much of a conversation with Herr Lubs, I still enjoyed meeting this charming and very modest man and his adorable wife.

I was talking to a friend yesterday who asked me if I had seen the new pen that Dietrich had designed for German-influenced Japanese manufacture, Düller. This was news to me, but I immediately sought it out.

This pen has all of the elements of his work at Braun, subtle colour used only to accent the work. The logo embossed in the lid. Nothing screams, everything is quiet. Less, but better or Weniger, aber besser as Dieter Rams would say.

It is only available in a few places in the UK, but I am hoping to get one from Japan as they are a little less expensive. No doubt these will become a little wider available soon enough.
