Here was me thinking that Lucie Kaas was a well-known design company stocked in all manner of stores around the world but it turns out that outside of Scandinavia there are very few places to buy their products.
Reviving old Scandinavian design classics, Lucie Kaas (unknown if this refers to a real person or a fictitious character), is the brainchild behind this selection of objects from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s
With a design which we may have seen in many places before, or just has that familiar 50’s pattern to it, Lucie Kaas relaunched, in collaboration with Arne Clausen’s family, a collection of ceramic bowls where the beautiful “lotus” pattern.
The name Arne Clausen might not sound familiar to many people, nevertheless, the Norwegian artist had a very influential role in one of Scandinavia’s biggest design successes in the 1960’s. Arne Clausen was employed as a decorator at the Norwegian factory Cathrineholm and he is behind the world-famous “lotus” pattern which adorned many of the most popular products from Cathrineholm.
Sitting alongside the Lotus collection are the Danish designed egg holders called Bordfolk (“Table People” in Danish) which are known to have adorned breakfast tables in the 60’s and 70’s. At only £11.95 each, these are sure to become a hit in the UK.
Joining these two collections is the work of Gunnar Flørning who was the man behind many of the biggest Danish design successes that were designed and produced for the Danish company Laurids Lønborg.
Of his many wood carvings he is probably best known for the world famous cat from 1958 which sold more than 300,000 pieces in Europe, North America and Japan.
I think this little company is going to have great success here when they eventually become more widespread in the UK.
