Anorak iPhone app

I might be a little slow off the mark, but Anorak magazine, the happy mag for kids, has always been on my radar but I have never posted about it before. A beautifully-designed children’s magazine, Anorak are upping the stakes with this iPhone app to distract your little rug rats. Only 69p to keep the kids happy and the big kids feeling satisfied that they are consuming some culture at the same time.

Download the app from the Apple iTunes store

Five daily essentials

I was tagged by Carole from Dear Designer to blog my five daily essentials, along with four other great bloggers… Ellie from In Pursuit of Loveliness, Anna from Around My Table, Ms Pink at The Pink and Blue Blog and Stacey Sheppard.

It was a lot of fun thinking about this and what I do on a daily basis. So let me talk you through it…

Five daily essentials

  • Spotify – I love music, and when Spotify came to iPhone it was a revelation. I can now change my playlist daily, or hourly even. I LOVE it!
  • Twitter – what social media manger would be without Twitter on a daily basis? I use it on my iPhone, my Macbook and Tweetdeck at work.
  • Brompton – not only is it free to travel, but it is exercise. What could be better than that?
  • BBC iPlayer – I don’t have a television so without BBC iPlayer I wouldn’t be able to tune in and watch sarcastic nurses taking recreational drugs.
  • Mont Blanc Meisterstück – this was my 30th birthday present and I try to use it often. If I have to write something, this is exactly the pen I use and I love using it.

I loved the idea of asking people to plot their five daily essentials, but I wondered who started this pyramid of blogging. So, I traced it back and here are the results…

To keep the pyramid alive, I will challenge five bloggers to continue the journey. So, here goes:

Over to your guys and girls, get blogging! And to everyone else, have a great weekend.

Diaries of a chair geek

I love my iPhone, and I love chairs, so imagine my excitement when I saw that this app was available.  Is that a little too geeky for a Friday morning?

The app works by showing silhouettes of design icons and then asking you for the name, designer or date.  It gives you a running score of how well you are doing, so it can get quite addictive.

It was developed by Mark Stevens from Fail Forwards in Copenhagen and costs 59p from the App Store.

”Whether you’re a design aficionado, student, or want to score a bargain at a bric-a-brac market, the Design Icon series gets you up to speed on the design classics,” Stevens says. “The world’s most iconic chairs are featured. The majority are classics of the 20th Century, though a few famous 19th and 21st century pieces are included. Currently there are more than 100 chairs featured.”
